A Life Update and a Family Visit

It’s been a while since I’ve connected with you here in my little corner of the web. It’s now March 2022 and I’m wondering what happened to the month of February. I blinked and it was over. It’s just as hard to believe that it’s been thirty-eight years since leaving my Amish world.

My life today looks so different than it did way back then. I am now President of Safer Solutions LTC, LLC. It’s been a drastic change from the scared little Amish girl that left her Amish world to venture out into the huge unfamiliar world with five boys, at the time, and a reluctant husband.

It feels like another lifetime ago when we moved into a one-bedroom apartment with five bewildered little boys. We were broke. Neither my husband nor I had a driver's license. We had no transportation, no income. What an uncertain time in my life. Alienated from my Amish family and friends, I had no idea the struggles that lay ahead of me!

Fast forward thirty-eight years later — I am now president of my own company, a division of Essex and Associates, with employees of my own. One of my employees is my sister Mary, who has also now left her Amish world. I feel incredibly blessed to have her working alongside me.

In the month of February, something very exciting happened. Mary and I waited in excitement and anticipation for the day ahead. We were expecting very special visitors from out of state! Two of our Amish sisters, two of our beautiful nieces, two little great-nephews, and a cousin, Anna Troyer (Anna is also the Best Selling Author of Plain Anna), were all coming to Ohio for a visit. We could hardly wait for their arrival.

They all came to my office to celebrate my and Mary's birthdays and to see the office where we both work. This was the first time they visited me and to say I was thrilled and excited was an understatement! Wayne, my business partner, bought lunch for us all. It was a very enjoyable and fun day. Hopefully, many more will follow. We all enjoyed it immensely.

My nieces, Marilyn and LuCinda, suggested setting a date for us all to plan another family visit — such as a day out and a Tea Party. I say, Yes!! I agree with Marilyn. Life is too short not to enjoy each other’s company.
